I’LL TAKE IT … BUT IT WASN’T NICE

ellis, on his way to the winning score
Okay, I’ll take it.
They came this close to dropping their third straight game and falling out of first place in the AFC East. They didn’t look particularly good. They certainly didn’t look like a playoff team by any means.
In the early going, it looked like they would roll over the stumbling Buffalo Bills, but it didn’t quite turn out that way. The Jets defense took another sabbatical.
Yet, they managed their own sort-of mini-miracle at the Meadowlands with 1:54 left on the clock, down by a score of 27-24.
With Buffalo in possession of the ball on their own 27 yard line, with a 2nd down and 5, Bills quarterback J.P. Losman was dropped for a nine yard loss. Before he hit the ground, he fumbled the ball. After a few wacky bounces, Shaun Ellis grabbed it and rumbled into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown.
The Jets went on top by a score of 31-27 and won the game.
A hell of a way to win.
The lead changed hands five times, I think it was – and Buffalo, prior to this game, had been held to mere field goals in their previous two games.
But an ugly win is always better than a gorgeous loss.
The Jets record improves to 9-5. They remain in a first-place tie with the Patriots and the Dolphins.
I’m sorry. They should have lost this game. Why on earth the Buffalo Bills thought they needed to throw the ball on that 2nd and 5 with less than two minutes to play when their running game was destroying the Jets’ defense – Marshawn Lynch ran for 127 yards – I haven’t the faintest idea. It was a gift.
Plus I don’t get that warm, fuzzy feeling hearing Brett Favre say, “Maybe I don’t have the arm I used to have” after the game.
Gee, thanks for that.
He was very mediocre, throwing for 207 yards, tossing two interceptions and often looking like he was out of synch.
I’m glad they won, but I’m not happy.
Seattle is next.
Good luck, Green.
You’ll need it.
